The opportunity
Signatus are partnering with one of Derry’s most recognised and long-established law firms to recruit a Medical Negligence Solicitor into its established litigation team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Clinical Negligence Solicitor, Personal Injury Solicitor or Litigation Solicitor looking to develop a long-term career in claimant medical negligence litigation.
You will join one of the region’s most experienced teams in this area. The firm has an excellent reputation for medical negligence, clinical negligence and personal injury litigation and has achieved a number of nationally recognised outcomes for its clients.
Ideally, the firm would like to appoint a solicitor with around 3–7 years PQE and some previous medical or clinical negligence experience.
However, PQE is only a guide.
The team will also consider a strong newly qualified solicitor or junior litigation solicitor. You may have trained or worked within a firm recognised for its personal injury work, or gained previous experience within a medical or clinical negligence team.
Importantly, you do not need to be a fully developed medical negligence specialist.
The team has considerable experience and can train and develop the right person. Therefore, this could be particularly attractive if you currently work in broader personal injury litigation and want to specialise.
You will receive genuine mentoring and development in complex medical negligence work while building your experience alongside established practitioners.
What you’ll be doing
You will manage a varied claimant litigation caseload focused on medical negligence and clinical negligence cases.
Depending on your experience, you may take immediate ownership of an established caseload. Alternatively, you can build towards greater file responsibility with support from senior lawyers in the department.
The work will suit a solicitor who enjoys technically challenging litigation and direct client contact. It also offers an excellent opportunity to develop deeper expertise in medical negligence.
The firm can consider candidates from either a claimant/plaintiff or defendant litigation background, provided your underlying experience is relevant.
What we’re looking for
Ideally, you will be a Northern Ireland-qualified solicitor with approximately 3–7 years PQE and experience in medical negligence, clinical negligence or personal injury litigation.
However, the firm remains flexible on PQE.
Applications are also encouraged from NQ solicitors and junior solicitors with strong litigation training. In particular, the team is interested in candidates who have trained or worked within a respected personal injury practice.
Previous exposure to medical negligence claims would also be highly relevant.
You should have strong client communication skills, sound litigation judgement and the ability to manage cases carefully and empathetically.
Why move?
- High-quality medical negligence work: Develop your experience across complex and rewarding claimant medical negligence and personal injury cases.
- Genuine specialist development: Work alongside a highly experienced senior partner and wider team, with hands-on mentoring in medical and clinical negligence litigation.
- Broad PQE range: The firm will consider candidates from a strong NQ profile through to experienced solicitors. The core target range is approximately 3–7 years PQE.
- Competitive salary: £30,000–£50,000+ as a guide, depending on experience. More experienced solicitor packages can compete strongly with comparable Belfast opportunities.
- Hybrid working: Work three days in the Derry office and two days from home.
- 4 or 5 day week: The firm can offer flexibility around the structure of your working week.
- Flexible working hours: Benefit from flexibility around daily start and finish times.
- Private medical insurance: Private healthcare forms part of the overall benefits package.
- Free staff parking: All employees have access to complimentary parking.
- Career progression: Join an established department within one of Derry’s best-known legal practices during a period of continued growth.
