Your new role
Signatus are exclusively representing a major housing and care provider PLC, to recruit an in house lawyer into their In house team. You will work across the entire group and subsidiaries gaining vast experience in commercial and contentious matters that otherwise wouldn’t be open to you in private practice.
You will provide legal support and advice across the Group, liaising with all the key stakeholders and decision makers within the various group entities. You will enjoy an interesting caseload of varied and challenging work. In this environment, you will gain both commercial and contentious experience across a range of disciplines that you otherwise wouldn’t in a private practice setting. It is a fantastic opportunity to upskill and at the same time start a career in an in house setting.
On a day-to-day basis you could be reviewing commercial agreements and advising on their merits, reviewing commercial leases or lease extensions; advising on tender bids and preparing documents for pitching for multi-million pound contracts.
You might also be dealing with litigation matters arising from dilapidations at the end of commercial leases or from residential tenants across the group’s entire property portfolio.
Additionally, your general commercial litigation experience will be used to advise on various matters including; breach of contract and contract queries generally. These may be construction contracts, adjudication proceedings or mediation matters. The role will also involve some aspect of debt recovery ranging from low-value sub-contractor claims to high-value contractual payment disputes in the County Court.
Your role is not confined to Belfast in terms of the locality of caseload. You will have the opportunity to interact with and liaise with the business group at all levels to assist the heads of divisions to provide quality legal advice and support.
You will also be exposed to working with other legal professionals external to the company including helping Senior Counsel and QC’s prepare for hearings.

What is required?
You should be a qualified lawyer from UK/IRL or if an alternative jurisdiction, be able to offer experience within a similar position in either private practice or an in house environment.
Commercial litigation experience is essential and knowledge of either contentious or non-contentious construction matters, adjudications and mediations would be highly desirable.
Although ideally suited to lawyers in the 3-4 year PQE range, we are open to considering applicants who fit within our client’s salary range, if presenting with the right level of experience.
